Hi, Ms. Kelley, I saw you on c-span a couple of months ago; and I wanted to give you a book idea. It’s about three American woman, who are house-hold names around the world; but have been forgotten in their contributions to the contemporary American Culture. You know these woman Diana Ross, Donna Summers and Madonna. Diana Ross was the Queen of Pop in the 60s, 70s and most of the 80s. Donna Summers temporarily dethroned Diana in the 70s, as she became the Queen of Disco. But, whats really interesting is that all three of these woman were connected to Nile Rodgers, who helped their careers tremendously. It was Donna Summers’ music especially “Last Dance” which birth today’s hip-hop music. Donna Summers most of her songs were 6 or 7 minutes, which were unheard of at the time. Barry White also recorded songs which were 6 & 7 minutes, he could easily be called the godfather of Disco. Diana Ross music were extended in the clubs and on Black-Radio to 6 & 7 minutes. But, also it was Diana’s dancers, who created hip-hip,pop-lock,electric-slide,electric-boggalu; and as an omaige to her they created Vogging. This was the 70s, but it was in the 80s when the rap industry took off from the sounds and beats of the last dance of Disco. Madonna worked with many of the people that Diana Ross & Donna Summers worked with, so did Whitney Houston, but it was Madonna voice and dance that became the heir apparent to the disco beat that the kids of the 80s embarrassed. It was interesting because a large segment of the white community hated disco and burned disco 8-track tapes during half-time at a baseball game. This image was shown around the world. However; it was a young white female who would benefit greatly from the demise of disco, her name was Madonna. She put dance music back on the map and introduced a dance art-form(VOGUE) to the world, that was basically under-ground. Micheal Jackson was created with the Moon-walk, which a dance that Diana Ross’s dancers had created also “Shabado.” This is a great American story which entails, American Icons that has yet been told. It would make for a great book and introduce you to a younger audience.
